One of the best bodybuilders of Bronze Era Bodybuilding is Georg Hackenschmidt, so let’s take a look at who he was and how he started his career during that time.
Georg Hackenschmidt was born in 1877 in Livonia.
During this time he also tried his luck in weightlifting and during this time he was more successful in it in 1901 and 1911 he started his wrestling career during which he played about 3000 wrestling matches. In which he lost only two matches.
These two matches were lost to Frank Gotch who was a very famous and very infamous wrestler of the time.
Over time his body became a little bigger and he broke many further records such as he could lift a weight of 90kg/200lbs with one hand. In 1896 he increased this weight to 95kg/215lbs and since then he has 111kg/243lbs. Very high and during this time he made a world record. The world record was previously held by Eugene Sandow but this world record was broken by a bench press of 120kg/275lbs.
Georg worked a lot on his body during that time and the size of different parts of his body was as follows.
- Necks: 56cm/22″
- Arms: 48cm/19″
- Chest: 132cm/52″
- Thighs: 70cm/26,75″
He was never happy with his body. He was working hard to make different muscles of his body look stronger and bigger. If I could make it stronger and bigger by working even harder, they used to work day and night for it.
He himself invented a different exercise during this career in which he lifted the barbell from behind by touching his hands together, starting from the floor on his toes, achieving a world record of 85kg/187lbs. It wasn’t until the sixties that a machine was developed to replicate the movement.
Talking about George’s diet, he ate vegetables, fresh fruits, oatmeal, lean meats and drank 5 liters of milk every day.
